The aging process

The other day I was getting ready for a party. I was actually doing my hair which consists of blowing it dry and then straightening it so it doesn't look so frizzy. It was during this process that I noticed how many grey hairs I have. It's insane! I usually have my hair in a ponytail so I guess that's why I didn't notice it before, although those hairs really should've been pulled out by the rough daily process of ponytail-putting-in. Yes, that's the technical term.  If this post seems at all random or oddly written, it's because I have a 6-year old constantly talking to me. She is oblivious to the fact that I am trying to write this. Earlier today, while on the phone, she laid down next to me and proceeded to talk and talk and talk for about 3 minutes, at which point she said, in an exasperated tone, "are you even listening to me?!"

Anyway, the whole point of this post was supposed to be about aging, specifically the aging of my children. I was inspired when I was watching them write their thank you notes for Christmas. I couldn't believe how mature they were being. Now, maybe it wouldn't have been such a shock if I had been making them write thank you notes all along like they should've been doing but I'm a slacker mom so this scene was shocking for me.

Owen is upstairs right now taking a shower because he smells! He now showers every other day. It's not like he smells bad, it's more of a boy smell. Not a cute little boy smell, a growing sweaty boy smell. Have I crossed the invisible line? He'd probably kill me if he read this. He's getting taller and bigger and eating a ton too! I hate thinking about it but he loves it. He seems ready to grow up, or at least grow bigger. He's still my boy though. He still lets me cuddle with him and we still talk. When all that ends, that's when I'll be a real mess. And when that first girl comes to the door? Man, she better watch out.

Kaitlyn is a character. I'd like to say she's a typical 6-year old but I think she's more than that. She's fiery and throws crazy tantrums when she wants to, then other times she'll start asking me all these thought provoking questions and I'm amazed at how smart and interesting she is. She has a great imagination too. We've been reading the Magic Tree House series and she's absolutely addicted to them. She's also still talking to me as I write this. I can't imagine she thinks I can have a conversation with her right now but she sure keeps trying. I suppose at this point I should just give in. Before I go however, I will apologize for how poorly this post flows. It really is hard to write while she talks and talks and talks to me. Oh. My. Gosh. She never stops.

Remember Me? A quick overview of the last 3 years...

Just kidding. I'm totally not going to try to sum up the last few years in this post. Suffice it to say, I find myself with a little more time these days than when I last posted. The kids are a bit older. Here are some recent photos of all of us as well as a new addition to our family.
Yes, I finally got Dan to agree to a dog! Colton is a sweet golden/shepherd mix. We adopted him from Sterling Animal Shelter when he was 4 months old. He's about a year and four months now. The next step is to bring a kitten into the house... I'm off to a workout but I will post again later. I have a story to tell.
